Rackhams was a distinguished British department store based in Birmingham, originally established in 1881 by John Rackham and William Matthews, building on a drapery business that dated back to 1851. Known for its refined shopping experience, it became part of the Harrods group in 1955 and later joined House of Fraser in 1959. Rackhams was especially popular in the Midlands, celebrated for its elegant interiors, pneumatic cash tube system, and diverse departments, including fashion, beauty, and food. The brand remained a local favorite until the early 2000s, when the Rackhams name was retired and stores were rebranded as House of Fraser.
